Operations
The Operations Division is the largest division of the fire department. Under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Operations, the division includes both suppression personnel and training personnel. The suppression division employs three (3) Battalion Chiefs, nine (9) Lieutenants, thirty-six (36) career firefighters and thirty (30) volunteer resident firefighters. The training division employs one Training Chief and one Lieutenant.
Career suppression personnel comprise three shifts of firefighters, operating out of three stations while staffing a minimum of three engine companies and two aid units. Resident firefighters supplement career engine companies as well as providing the staffing of outlying stations. Resident firefighters work 12 hour shifts, while career firefighters work 24-hour shifts, each shift is supervised by a Battalion Chief who is responsible for the emergency and administrative activities of all members assigned to that shift.
An all-hazards response agency, suppression personnel are responsible for emergency medical services, fire suppression, mitigation of disasters and special operations including rescue activities while providing coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to emergency work, suppression personnel provide a wide range of services to the community including blood-pressure screening, commercial building inspections, tours of fire stations and apparatus, and fire and life safety presentations within the community.
Training personnel provide all aspects of initial and continued training, ensuring competency, safety and compliance of all uniformed personnel.

The district has identified the hazards of High/Low angle rescue and Swiftwater rescue as priorities.
Swiftwater rescue is the number one risk in terms of special operations within our district. Swiftwater Rescue deals with the entry into rapid or swift moving water over or down a gradient, whether in a river channel or flood plain, for the purpose of making contact with and removing patient(s) that are unable to remove themselves safely from the moving body of water.
High/Low Angle Rescue capabilities remain a priority of our department based on history and potential risk to the community. High/Low Angle Rescue deals with over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical and exposed environments. This type of rescue requires skills in stokes litter rigging, mechanical advantage systems, real and artificial anchoring, dynamic and static belaying, cliff pickets, A-frame and tripods, and vehicle anchoring systems.
Swiftwater and High/Low Angle Rescue are specialty disciplines that require personnel to be trained to the Technical Rescuer Level as outlined in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1670 Standard for Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents. The education and training issues covered in these disciplines also address the special operational needs for Surface Water Rescue, Ice and Cold Water Rescue, Fresh Water Drowning and Tree Rescue.
The district currently has 18 personnel certified as Technicians in Swiftwater Rescue and Rope Systems.
